UV CLEAN LIGHT – IMPROVING AIR QUALITY IN PUBLIC BUILDINGS AND INCREASING RESILIENCE FOR THE FUTURE
Our UV-C sterilisation units have been important tools for many organisations to tackle the challenges of the SARS-CoV-2 virus during the Covid-19 pandemic. We now need to look to the future and attempt to build infection control solutions to enable us to not only live with Covid-19, but also control a whole range of viral and bacterial infections; such as seasonal flu, MRSA, the common cold, etc. There is a significant focus from all areas of government to improve air quality in public buildings for the future. Our range of Sterilon Air Flow sterilisation units are safe to use whilst people are present, and are therefore sterilising the air through out the day and reducing the spread of any germs.

UV CLEAN LIGHT HELPING TO PROTECT THE UK’S SCHOOL PUPILS AND TEACHERS

I just thought you may like to know that we have a confirmed case of COVID at Ludworth. The child caught it over half term at a local amusement park and came into school on Monday 7th June, not realising they had caught it. They developed symptoms later that day when at home. We had to close the whole Early Years bubble (37 children) and isolate 9 members of staff. There have been no further reported cases from their bubble. This must be to do with your UV cleansers. This variant is highly transmissive and so you would have expected someone else to catch it as they were with their classmates and teachers for 6 hours.”

PROVEN TECHNOLOGY
Although the science behind the sterilising effect of UV-C is indisputable, it does not necessarily mean that a given technology or solution will kills viruses, bacteria and moulds. Our products have been tested in independent testing laboratories and have been shown to be effective at killing germs. It is always, however, important to ensure the right unit or units are used in a given space. We also ensure that you are provided with suitable training and risk assessments for the use of UV-C technologies.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND UV-C STERILISATION
UV-C is part of the electromagnetic spectrum, which spans from Infrared to X-Rays. It has been known for over 70 years that it kills germs (viruses, bacteria and moulds). It has a wavelength from 200nm to 280nm. UV-C is beyond the visible spectrum, and hence is invisible to humans. The light sources we use have an output that also falls into the visible range, and hence appear blue when switched on. UV-C kills viruses by breaking down the links in the RNA or DNA. There has never been a virus discovered, which is resistant to UV-C. During 2020, however, studies have not only shown that the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which is responsible for Covid-19, is killed by UV-C, but we also know how much energy is required to do so. We are therefore able to design products and solutions to ensure airborne and surface viruses are killed as effectively as practically possible.

METHODS OF TRANSMISSION
The Covid virus is spread in three main ways: via contaminated surfaces; via small droplets from speaking or coughing; and transmission by via aerosols – the inhalation of invisible particles exhaled by an infected person.

“In addition to the actual sterilisation which is being delivered, the confidence given to my team has been striking. There has been a palpable change in atmosphere at the care home since we started using UV Clean Light’s sterilisation equipment.“
Laura Harding, Glenfields Care Home and CQC Designated Scheme Settings
